HOME AND CHILL

Recently got home, still with some work to do, but finally settled down after a series of travels. This blog slept for a while, but will wake up soon with some new stuff. Till then....

PENINSULA PROPAGANDA - 11 DAYS TILL THE 8TH EDITION

If you'll open the official festival page you can read what these guys have in store for the Romanian audience this year, but Peninsula is more than just facts. It's true, they're gonna have over 70 artists performing in 4 days! this way covering a variety of genres, so no one gets to complain. Besides the big bands that are attending, the charm of this particular festival is that you're making new musical discoveries every day, finding gorgeous bands that you've never heard of before.

Peninsula promises to be a true festival experience for its visitors with shows held in 4 musical locations, film projections from Transylvania International Film Festival, a variety of sports competitions & extreme sports.

What I consider to be the peak of the whole 4 days, is being able to witness a DUB FX street performance in the center of Targu Mures. Besides that, Dub Fx, Flower Fairy and Mr Woodnote will have a live show in the festival camp on August 29th at Kiss Terrace.

The line-up gathers big names like Korn, Gorillaz Sound System, The Rasmus, Nero, Parov Stelar Band, Noisia, Babylon Circus, Above and Beyond, Sub Focus, Tricky, N.O.H.A, Theraphy and Europe, chilling the thirst for dance and music.

Romanian music was not left aside, therefore legendary rock band Phoenix, psychedelic band Tunderground, the funk-jazzy band Blazzaj, the electro crowd-rocking Suie Paparude, Kumm with their soon legendary sax player Iordache, Butterflies in my stomach and Gojira will hit the public with a mixture of sounds and rhythms.

Also, count on safety and good behavior during your stay, Peninsula got a name of being a well-bred festival.

Yes, start counting days till the beginning of what is known to be the biggest musical happening in Romania.

WHY NOT BE A HERO?

Have some guts this summer, get to die for tickets quickly and don't miss on the biggest urban happening.
I'm gonna freeze some guys up in the air during the skateboarding competition, while they do their tricks and make you envious about how cool they are.
Besides the coolness of this festival, Heroes can be proud of taking place in one of the biggest skate parks you can find in Eastern Europe. Someone will get his hands on a 5000€ cash prize on the BMX competition that will gather 12 professional riders. Urban artists show off with their originality and style and there will be plenty of it: 12 crews, each with 5 writers.
Street artist will have their say. Skate park as an art gallery. Artists that are not bound to the classical working space will attend and make Youth Park a place of unconventional art. And then again, there's dancing. Street dancing that is, with 10 crews, duet and solo performers. Film lovers don't get to complain, as "In search of the Miraculous" composed by Pontus Alv will be launched there and will give you some insights on what urban lifestyle means.

Heroes that will be delighted to give a courageous performance are: Dub FX and band, up to 8 members on stage, Chase and Status together with MC Rage, Borgore, Dropdread, Gojira, DJ Hype.

Sunset/Moonrise

I've gone soft and now I'm photographing sunsets. This was taken Saturday evening, after rain. Haven't seen such beautiful light and colors for a long time.

Old man

Four years old digital photo, the reason I like it is, that it's almost black and white, few grays, and 2nd, you can hardly see anything behind his eyes, but has such a gentle face that tells you everything about the way he is. I remember that he wasn't upset by me taking this photo, and had an attitude like, why are you photographing me, am I that interesting or intriguing? Maybe he was about to ask me something, but I left before he did. I found him near a market place, in Iasi.

The sunbaker, taken in 1937, only in 70's became iconic in Australian art and photography.

Max Dupain was against studio fakery or manipulation, claiming that "photography is at its best when it shows a thing clearly and simply."

"Simple geometry and dynamic symmetry had perfectly expressed the energy of modernist formalism." Gael Newton (Curator of Australian photography at the National Gallery of Australia) on Dupain's "The Sunbaker"
